Container handling by the South Carolina Seaports Authority, including Charleston, jumped 10% on a year earlier – the fastest rate since December. That’s similar to the other east coast ports (though slightly behind Savannah’s 13%) and outpaced the west coast. Aside from tariff-racing China traffic Charleston also saw a 9% increase in traffic from Europe after an 11% slide in 2Q. Maersk (13% higher) and Hapag-Lloyd (40%) were the main beneficiaries and could grow further as Asian shippers restructure their Transatlantic routes.
