Container handling through South Carolina’s ports, including Charleston, increased by just 3% on a year earlier in May. That was the eighth straight month of growth, but the slowest rate for that period. Export growth outstripped imports, with a 5% expansion, while empty container handling was unchanged. That is a marked contrast to the ports in Georgia, Virginia and California. They all saw imports outstrip exports, and a jump in empty container handling.
