Container handling through Georgia Ports’ Authority facilities, led by the Port of Savannah, climbed 5% on a year earlier. That was the 11th straight increase. As with most other U.S. ports, excepting those in Puget Sound, imports did better than exports with a 14% expansion of loaded incoming containers vs. a 7% drop for outgoing volumes. Import growth is being driven by China, with a 22% rise in imports setting a new record of over 84,400 TEUs Panjiva data shows.
