China’s Surging LNG Demand Needs U.S. Supplies as Cheniere Shrugs Off Harvey

China’s demand for LNG took a step forward in July, climbing 165% on a year earlier and by 45% on a sequential, quarterly basis. Growth was led by supplies from Papua New Guinea and Australia, with no U.S. supplies for the second time this year. U.S. exports in July meanwhile climbed 5% vs. June – including shipments to China that will have arrived in August. Cheniere Energy’s fourth train at its Sabine Pass facility came online in July, so volumes should have risen in August.
