Chips Drive Taiwan Export Jump, But Where Are They Going?

Taiwan’s exports jumped 14% in December, the fastest rate since January 2013 and well ahead of economists’ expectations of 10%. The main driver was a 29% increase in shipments of semiconductors, while mainland China was the leading customer nation overall with 26% growth. Given Chinese exports of phones and PCs fell by around 3% in November either a marked turnaround in output is coming, or stockpiles may prove significant.
