COSCO Shipping has signed an agreement with Shanghai International Port Group to increase shipments between Shanghai and COSCO’s Piraeus port in Greece. Panjiva analysis shows Piraeus has already been one of COSCO’s best performing international ports. Handling increased 12% in the 12 months to April 30 compared to a 2% decline at its Suez facility and 4% slide in Antwerp. Asian growth should help boost Piraeus further – COSCO’s Singapore joint venture has handled 16% more volumes in the past year, while traffic via Shanghai hit a new high in May.
