COSCO Pacific’s ports in China handled 2% more traffic in January on a year earlier, the third straight month of growth. The biggest single contributor was Yantian port which expanded 7%. That port is the second largest handler of trans-Pacific trade to the U.S., and was likely buoyed by exports of toys and furniture from the Shenzhen region. Yet, the aggregate of all ports’ handling across mainland China increased 3% in January, meaning COSCO has lagged behind for 12 straight months.
