COSCO Shipping’s Port Handling Growth Slows Ahead of Protectionist Risks

Container handling through COSCO Shipping’s Chinese port facilities increased by 3% on a year earlier in March, the slowest rate since January 2017. There was a diverse performance in its regions, with Bohai Rim ports surging 26% on a year earlier. That followed last year’s restructuring of the Dalian port facilities. One challenge is that 12% of exports from Dalian’s Liaoning region in 2017 were steel, and so face U.S. duties from the end of March.
