Cuban Imports Down at Heel After China Purchases Drop

Cuba may be starting to tighten its belt. Imports in October from five key counterparties fell 25% on a year earlier, Panjiva analysis shows. This was the sixth straight decline and resulted from a 29% slump in purchases from China, led mostly by consumer products. Imports from the U.S. jumped 60%, but are only equivalent to 19% of those from China and may fall under the new U.S. administration.
