The European Commission is looking to take a tougher stance on its setting of tariffs against countries found guilty of dumping excess products into its markets. It is already suffering from a weaker stance than the U.S. in steel. Panjiva data shows exports of Chinese steel to the EU fell 8% in the 12 months to August 30, whereas exports to the U.S. fell 67%. The next battleground is likely to be aluminum, where Chinese exports increased 14% in August, triggering a round of initial complaints from U.S. manufacturers.
