Expeditors, Flexport face Seattle disruptions despite port’s demand drop

Container handling through the ports of Seattle and Tacoma fell for a 13th straight month in September with an 11.1% slide resulting from a 15.2% drop in exports and an 8.3% decline in imports. The firm has suffered from container-lines cutting capacity during the pandemic while “COVID-19 continues to disrupt supply chains” across the region according to the port authority. Union Pacific has increased surcharges for shippers from the port despite the lower traffic due to a surge in demand for equipment further south.
