The Georgia Ports Authority has detailed plans for inland port facilities at Gainesville, Ga. to support its main seaport at Savannah. Containerized shipping via Savannah has grown 7.0% in the 12 months to October 31 on a year earlier while imports to consignees in the 60 miles around Gainesville – including Atlanta – has surged 17.8% higher over the same period. Auto Metals Direct will be an anchor customer for the new facilities, with other major importers to the area being Home Depot, American Design and Arauco.
