Gothenburg’s Slump Raises a Red Flag for Port-o-Mation Strategies

The Port of Gothenburg reported a 19% slump in container handling in 2017, the worst performance on record. That followed the impact of strikes during the year, as well as a knock from the notPetya virus. As a result shippers appear to be avoiding the port, which could continue in 2018. The effect can be seen in a 43% slump in shipments to the U.S. in the fourth quarter, though Grimaldi’s ACL remains the largest container-line at 79% of shipments.
