Container handling through ports in Georgia, including Savannah, climbed 15.5% year over year in March, reversing an 8.5% drop seen in February. That would suggest congestion issues have been largely cleared while investments in new capacity at the port are bearing fruit. Imports from China climbed 8.6% year over year compared to the 3.9% drop seen nationally. All but one of the major container-lines increased their shipping through the port. Hapag-Lloyd, which saw a 2.7% drop in 1Q compared to a year earlier, was the outlier after it lost ground to MSC and ZIM.
