Japanese Auto Exports Slow as Toyota Taps the Brakes

Japan’s automakers reported a 6% drop in exports in January on a year earlier. This was the first drop since July, Panjiva’s analysis of company financial data shows. Toyota was the worst performer with a 13% slide, though overseas production also increased so this may just be a supply-chain issue. Nissan’s shipments climbed 53%, possibly ahead of the launch of the new Micra. Total exports to the U.S. from Japan fell 15%, the 11th straight drop, and likely means a further reduction in sales in February.
