U.S. ports handled 10% more containers in December than a year earlier, Panjiva data shows, lead by a 20% jump in shipment into Los Angeles. That growth was the result of a 32% climb in imports from China and Hong Kong. This partly reflects volumes won from other regional ports including Long Beach as well as higher imports of consumer durable goods. The ports of Newark and New Jersey did less well, with 5% growth as higher imports from India offset lower shipments from Germany.
