U.S. non-farm payroll employment levels fell in April as a result of the COVID-19 linked industrial shutdowns. Payrolls in the logistics and transport industry fell by 9.1% year over year. That was led by a 25.6% slump in airline and airport jobs while employment in the waterborne sector dropped by 10.7%. Warehousing fell by 3.6% despite increased demand for e-commerce. The drop in employment may reflect expectations of a continued low level of logistics activity.
