The U.S.-China trade war is starting to have an impact on seaport activity. Total handling of inbound, containerized freight fell 2.9% year over year in June, including a 9.8% slide in shipments from China. Long Beach did worst with total imports off 9.1%, while Seattle and Tacoma combined saw a 5.0% slide. The latter reverses a 16.7% surge seen in the prior three months. When added to figures for Los Angeles and Oakland that meant total Californian imports fell 5.3%.
