The U.S. government has removed access to reduced tariffs under the Generalized System of Preferences for 573 products imported from Thailand. While part of a wider GSP review the move is not a surprise given the U.S. trade deficit reached $19.8 billion in the 12 months to Aug. 31. Panjiva’s analysis shows the new exclusions cover $2.04 billion of imports in the 12 months to Aug. 31, or 6.2% of total U.S. imports from Thailand.
