Congestion at the Port of Montreal has led some terminal operators to apply increased gate fees and extend opening hours going into the peak shipping season. That’s been driven by demand growth rather than disruptions, but nonetheless needs to be dealt with quickly to avoid the kind of business loss seen by Felixstowe in the U.K. Container handling at Montreal rose 21% in July led by a 28% surge in imports.
