The British government has called for a “unique” post-Brexit trade deal in the midst of the fifth round of talks with the EU, and ahead of a EU Council (heads of state) meeting to consider whether to proceed to trade talks on October 19. It has also published two papers that will set post-Brexit customs arrangements in place. While these could be seen as signs of a willingness to accept “no deal”, they could simply be sensible preparations for all potential outcomes.
