The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 6% more container traffic than a year earlier in November, driven by a 9% improvement in imports. The fastest growing trade lane for imports was Italy, Panjiva data shows, with 29% growth. In absolute terms though China mattered more, having increased 7% as the port likely took share from the west coast via Panama. Empty container handling increased 5%, similar to LA/Long Beach and Charleston, but contrasting to a decline at Savannah.
