Oakland’s Capacity Increase Comes as Tariff Challenges Rise and ONE’s Use Falls

Capacity at the Port of Oakland will rise after TraPort – owned by Mitsui-OSK – announced plans to add a second shift from October. Growth of 2.4% in the past year has been relatively modest vs. the rest of the nation though there was a record high for handling in the month of August. The need for continued capacity expansion will in part be a function of the widening tariff war between China and the U.S., though China only accounted for 39% of inbound traffic in the past year.
