Ports The New Home of Jobs Growth as Trucking, Couriers Slow

U.S. non-farm payrolls grew by less than expected in December, but the logistics industry remains healthy. Employment in the seven sectors tracked by Panjiva grew for an 89th straight month to reach 5.1 million positions. The most marked improvement has been in the waterborne logistics sector where there was a 2.5% increase – the fastest rate of growth since September 2014. There may be pressure later in the year though as ports seek to implement more automation.
