Container handling at U.S. ports grew for a seventh month in September, with incoming volumes rising 7% on a year earlier. The impact of hurricane activity was absorbed within the month. Handling at Port Houston jumped 30% on a year earlier to a new record after a rapid recovery from as the disruption from Hurricane Irma in August. A similar effect was seen in Jacksonville’s 32% growth. Ports that closed during September for Irma also recovered by month end – Savannah’s handling increased 10%.
