Maersk’s SeaLand has continued to expand its regional services in the Americas with the “Hispaniola” service calling at Port Everglades in the U.S. to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, American Journal of Transportation reports. That follows the addition of services to four central American services as outlined in Panjiva’s research of May 29.

Panjiva data shows that U.S. imports from the Dominican Republic and Haiti have climbed 9.5% in the 12 months to May 31 to reach 322k TEUs. The major ports of unlading in the past 12 months have been Miami with 38.7% of the total followed by Port Everglades at 12.3% and Houston with 6.3%.

SeaLand may try to attract customers currently using both Miami and Port Everglades. Leading importers to the port outside of the logistics and tobacco sectors in the past 12 months have included Gildan Activewear with 4,600 TEUs and Hanesbrands with 2,800 TEUs.
