SeaTac Slows, Rules Change With Seasonal Surge Soon

The ports of Seattle and Tacoma saw total container handling growth slow to 2.1% year over year in May due to a drop in imports of 5.7%. The latter may prove to be a blip in an extended period of growth which has seen inbound container handling rise 9.0% year over year in the past 12 months. The Port Authority is aiming to avoid prior congestion problems during the peak season – which could arrive sooner than normal if the Trump administration’s tariff threats against China are implemented – by extending gate hours.
