Seattle and Tacoma Go Their Own Way As Container Volumes Stagnate

Corp - Ports 880 Mode - Containerized 1468 Mode - Seaborne 1801 U.S. 5317

Container handling through the ports of Seattle and Tacoma fell 5.1% on a year earlier in September. That included a 14% drop in imports and a 7% rise in exports. The latter was the 11th straight month of growth, and is the reverse to that seen across the U.S. and at Canada’s west coast ports. The decline in imports was driven largely by lower South Korean shipments (down 23%). Short-term disruptions from operator lease changeovers at Tacoma may see a small recovery in the near-term.
