Shanghai Lags Peers As Congestion Bites U.S.-Bound Traffic

China 3048 Corp - Ports 909 Mode - Containerized 1524 Mode - Seaborne 1845 U.S. 5399

China’s ports handled 10% more containers than a year ago in June. Shanghai, the largest port, delivered growth of 5% despite facing significant congestion issues. Those may have hit U.S.-bound traffic more than other routes as volumes fell 7% on a year earlier, Panjiva data shows. The other top 10 ports’ volumes globally were either flat or increasing except for Lianyungang which dropped by 16%. Smaller ports continued to outperform for a fifth month, with a 17% increase in June.
