Singapore Soars While Becoming More Reliant on Pacific Basin Routes

Container handling through Singapore climbed 16% on a year earlier in November to reach the second highest level on record. That brought the seasonally-adjusted growth run to 17 months, and outpaced bulk handling which dropped 2% due to lower oil volumes. Continued growth in Asian trade should mean the port continues to prosper, though it is becoming more reliant on the Pacific basin. Shipments to the U.S. fell 6% on a year earlier, with a marked redirection to LA/Long Beach and away from the east coast.
