SNCF’s freight forwarding business, Geodis, has launched a new, specialist lithium ion battery airfreight service from Hong Kong to Mexico. Geodis has cited “severely limited” capacity for safe transit of batteries – which can overheat if not handled carefully – on the route. Mexican imports of lithium ion batteries surged 32.0% higher year-over-year in the 12 months to Sept. 30k, with shipments led by China which accounted for 30.7% of the total.
