Employment in the U.S. logistics industry continued to expand in February, though the rate of growth of 3.6% represented a third month of slowing growth. The consumer exposed sectors have seen the fastest slowdown in growth with warehousing employment increasing by a – still significant – 7.0% compared to 12.3% on average in 4Q. The only sector to see an acceleration in growth was marine employment which rose by 2.0%. That was the fastest rate of growth since Aug. 2016 and likely reflects increased employment to clear port congestion that dogged the sector at the end of 2018.
