Taiwan’s exports climbed 9% in October, well above the 2% rise expected by economists. The gains were broad based with semiconductor exports jumping 21%, IT / communications climbing 18% and machinery exports up 13% to their highest ever level. Yet, these gains may prove fleeting if they simply reflect delayed shipments due to Hanjin Shipping’s woes and disruptions in September from Typhoon Meranti.
