The U.S. ITC has confirmed the fourth five-year continuation of tariffs against Chinese exports of pure magnesium. Panjiva data shows imports fell in 23 of the past 24 months to January 31 after a spike in shipments from Mexico in 2014. Yet, seaborne shipments – normally a fifth of the total – rebounded by more than 200% in February. Exports from China have also been increasing, with shipments exceeding $100 million per month in January for the first time since 2015. That was due to a 58% increase in shipments to Canada.
