Container handling through the Port of Virginia fell 0.2% on a year earlier in February, the first drop after six months of growth. That was the result of a 3% slide in imports offsetting a 5% expansion in exports. The slower imports were due to China, Brazil and Singapore, Panjiva data shows. With regards to China the port did better than the national average. Brazilian shipments dropped to the lowest since at least 2007, suggesting a loss of market share. Forthcoming investments in new cranes could add more than 40% to capacity and handling over the period to 2020.
