The Democratic primary debate in South Carolina has been lacking in discussions of trade policy. That’s not a surprise given exports from the state have surged 28.7% in 2019 versus 2017 to reach $8,154 per capita, the fourth highest in the country. The state has largely shrugged off the trade war with China. Exports from the state to China were unchanged in 2019 versus 2017 at $1,293 per capita.
