Container handling via Virginia’s major ports increased 2% on year earlier in August. That was the 11th increase in the past year, but the slowest growth since October. That’s similar to the pattern seen nationally, and includes a marked drop in exports (down 11%) while imports climbed 6%. The increase in imports was the result of a 16% jump in shipments from the European Union, far outstripping the slide seen nationally.
