Port Houston’s container handling dropped 18% sequentially and 9% on a year earlier in August. That resulted in the lowest level of shipments for the month of August since 2011, and was the result of closures caused by Hurricane Harvey. The closure was most keenly felt by exporters, which saw a 24% slump in handling to the lowest since June 2009.
