Container handling through Port Houston climbed 10% in November, making for a third month of growth after the fall’s hurricane disruptions. As seen throughout the nation, except Savannah, the expansion in loaded incoming containers outstripped exports. China has been an increasing part of Houston’s success, with a 51% rise in incoming volumes compared to a 14% rise for Mexico. The two jointly now account for 46% of all import volumes. That could prove to be a challenge if NAFTA negotiations fail, or the Trump administration makes good on its threats to get tough with China.
