Hyundai Merchant Marine is launching a South Korea to Europe containerized freight service that will use maritime routes to China before onward shipment via rail to Poland. The routing will take 17 days less than a traditional maritime route. It likely represents Hyundai MM attempting to retain market share from freight forwarders such as Ceva and K+N that have been more aggressive in starting rail routes. Panjiva data shows rail exports from China to Europe climbed 110% in the past 12 months on a year earlier, and reached a record of $1.2 billion in September.
