The peak shipping season got off to a strong start for container-lines on U.S.-inbound routes with an 8% rise in handling to reach a record 2.5 million TEUs. China wasn’t the biggest driver though with a 5% increase in imports as an initial round of duties took effect but a larger package loomed. Maersk and MSC grew quickest at 18% and 15% respectively while their new partner ZIM Shipping also saw a 15% improvement. The worst performers included ONE (down 4%) and COSCO Shipping (9%).
