Mexico’s 10 Month Trade Boom Awaits NAFTA Decisions

Mexico’s trade boom continued for a 10th month in February with a 12% growth in combined imports and exports. Growth in exports modestly outpaced imports with the result that the trade surplus of $1.1 billion was nearly double economists’ estimates. The deficit with the U.S. may actually have narrowed to $5.0 billion from $5.5 billion a year earlier, though that will unlikely change the tone of NAFTA talks.
