Eclat Textiles’ Chairman, Hung Cheng-hai, has stated that geographic diversification in sourcing provides a “competitive advantage in the supply chain”. While the U.S.-China trade war provides a reason to diversify away from China in the case of suddenly applied tariffs, the firm has already taken a dynamic approach to sourcing. For example its U.S. seaborne imports from Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan represented 75.2% of sourcing in 2018, but that fell to 9.7% in 2Q 2019.
