U.S. winter-sports equipment imports fell 7% on a year earlier in October, Panjiva data shows, resulting in the lowest level of imports for the month since 2009. Commentary from Dick’s Sporting Goods suggest the outlook is not much better. Imports of goggles saw the most marked turnaround, with a 44% drop presenting a challenge for Luxottica-owned Oakley. Dyrdek’s Burton in the meantime has to face snowboarding imports that fell 6% on a year earlier, the fourth time in the past five years there has been a decline in that month.
