Volkswagen’s Good News for Baltimore May Come At Houston’s Expense

Volkswagen will invest in new port facilities at Baltimore, Md. with TradePoint Atlantic to import 120,000 new vehicles per year from 2020. The timing is somewhat surprising given recent comments by CEO Herbert Diess regarding the risks from forthcoming U.S. automotive sector duties. Nonetheless Volkswagen’s U.S. imports of completed vehicles climbed 9.0% year over year in 2018.
