Anglo American’s Colombian COVID-19 challenges cut coal exports

Anglo American has reported a downturn in its mining operations in Q2 due to weakened demand and operational issues in its mines related to COVID-19. The firm has cut its thermal coal output forecast for 2020 by 4.5% “due to the impact of COVID-19 related restrictions”, with a 62% drop in output at its Cerrejon mine in Colombia. Panjiva’s data shows the Colombian coal exports linked to the firm were zero in April after a 110% year over year surge in Q1.
