Expeditors Swamped By Forwarder Competition as Tariff Effect Ripples Outwards

The freight forwarders operating U.S.-inbound services saw an 18th month of growth in August after volumes rose 2%. However, all is far from being rosy. Growth slowed from 6% in the prior three months as tariffs on Chinese exports began to bite. There was a split in performance among the major forwarders with the large U.S.-domiciled operators declining markedly, led by Expeditors (down 15%) and UPS (13% lower).
