Hapag-Lloyd warns of Oakland overload as port congestion moves north

Hapag-Lloyd has noted a build up in congestion at the port of Oakland, California, with 24 vessels at anchor being double that from a month ago. Resolution could take until a new crane is installed in late May. Port activity in Oakland climbed by 27.0% year over year in March and by 12.9% compared to March 2019. That’s been largely due to a 45.5% year over year increase in loaded container imports.
