Hamburg Sud has adjusted its U.S. east coast / Venezuela service to cut Jacksonville as a stop and will instead use Port Everglades. The decline of the Venezuelan economy is likely to blame. The move is a sensible piece of service simplification, after Hamburg Sud’s volumes shipped into Jacksonville fell 10% annually in the past three years. The overall impact should be minimal for Jacksonville given Hamburg Sud was only the fourth largest shipper for inbound freight, and Venezuela only accounted for 6% of its volumes there.
