Super-typhoon Jebi, which made landfall in Japan on September 4, may be the worst storm to hit Japan in 25 years causing tragic loss-of-life as well as economic damage in the west of the country including Osaka. Exports from the area around Osaka transited through Kobe and Osaka ports accounted for 6.3% of total shipments from Japan to the U.S. in the past 12 months. Exporters from the area that may see supply chain disruptions as a result are focused on the capital goods industry. They include Kubota (22% of containerized freight), Sanyo Electric and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
